Responsibilities

Planning Department Responsibilities

We are responsible for preparing, updating, and administering the County’s Land Development Regulations, zoning codes, and Comprehensive Plan.  We provide Zoning, Land Development Regulations, Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use, and Development information to the public for the  un-incorporated areas of DeSoto County (not the City limits of Arcadia).

  • Collection of Local Business Taxes (formerly known as “Occupational License”) and issuance of Local Business Tax receipts; collection of associated Fire Inspection Fees
  • Zoning request forms (1st step in any building permit or site development inquiry)
  • FEMA map flood zone determinations
  • Platting and subdivision of land, vacation (closing and abandonment) of roads and plats
  • Review, evaluation, and processing of requests related to:
    • Changes in Zoning designations
    • Changes to Future Land Use designations,
    • Amendments to the Land Development Regulations
    • applications for Development Site Plans
    • applications for site Improvement Plans
    • applications for Special Exceptions
    • applications for Variances
