ADOPTING A FRIEND
We have both dogs and cats available to the public for adoption. All animals must be spayed or neutered when adopted. A listing of participating veterinarians is available to chose from when adopting a pet. Adoption fees are $10.00, deposit on rabies vaccination is $12.00 and deposit on spay/neuter is $25.00 You will be given a $37.00 certificate to cover your deposits to help defray the cost of sterilization and rabies vaccination. These processes must be completed within 30 days. Our adopted pets are micro-chipped free of charge. Privately owned pets can be brought into the shelter and micro-chipped for $9.00

In an effort to make a better life for our residents and pets, Desoto County Animal Services is now located in a climate controlled building.  New education and new projects are in the future to better enable this department to be of greater service to the community.

  Topics of Interest

Donations of treats, toys, bedding and supplies are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Volunteers are always welcome and are the greatest tool at our disposal for the socialization of our pets in the adoption preparedness process. We now have an adoption room that is specifically set aside for the public to use to spend time in an effort to acquaint themselves with a prospective pet.  Outside play areas are also available.  Efforts in Humane public education are in the early stages with county elementary schools and upcoming events for this are in the works. If interested or for more information call the Animal Services @ 863-993-4855.

Efforts are being made for the creation of a low cost spay/neuter, vaccination program but are not yet in the works.
Further education for animal abuse and cruelty investigations certification are also in the works.
